Does S1000D authoring done in an XML environment using tags, metadata, attributes, and schema coding?

No, our authoring environment is code-free, authors just need to focus on the content. Forget about all the rest.

Can we convert Word documents to S1000D data modules?

Yes. We provide a special converting tool for process automation. We will do the hard work, and you keep the focus on the content.

S1000D Authoring software and CSDB are available as SaaS or as On-premise?

both.

What is the different between IETM and IETP?

IETP refers to Interactive Electronic Technical Publications that are structured according to S1000D specifications. IETM refers to Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals according to class v and above (Dita and other specs that are not S1000D)

What type of illustrations and media files are supported?

From simple drawings, vector 2D illustrations, and 3D dynamic models to AR technology. We support them all.

What is CSDB?

Common Source Data Base, is where the Data Modules are stored. CSDB is required by S1000D specifications. Information is based on METADATA (structure of database record) and MODULES (learning modules, data modules, illustrations) – everything is CODED (every system component has a unique CODE)

what is Data Module (DM)?

A data module is defined as a stand-alone information unit and contains descriptive, procedural, or operational data for a platform, system, or component. It is produced in such a form that it can be stored and retrieved from a Common Source Data Base by using the data module code as the identifier

What is S1000D?

S1000D is an international specification for the procurement and production of technical publications. It is an XML specification for preparing, managing, and publishing technical information for a product. It was initially developed by the AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) for use with military aircraft. Since Issue, the scope has been extended to include land, sea, and even non-equipment products. It is widely used in civil as well as military products. S1000D is part of the S-Series of ILS specifications

What are the IETM classes?

in short, Class 0 – Paper, Class 1 – Electronically Indexed Page Images: page-oriented in a chronological order manual, where the pages in PDF format included cross-links and hypertext links that took the user to other areas in the document, Class 3 – Linear-Structured IETMs: structured data with hyperlinks using SGML/XML and viewing the content in a browser. Class 4 – Hierarchically Structured IETMs: cross-referencing between different, but related, data. The data is commonly tagged using SGML or XML and stored in a relational or object-oriented database. Class 5 – Integrated Process / expert system IETMs

How do I reset my password?

Access the Help Lightning app on your mobile device or your computer/Windows tablet at helplightning.net. You will be presented with a sign-in screen. Type in your login and hit Next, then tap “forgot password” and follow the prompts.

I cannot log into my account, but I previously set one up

Here are some possibilities: You may have forgotten your password. If so, please reset it! You are trying to log into the web app (at helplightning.net) with a username associated with a personal (non-business) account. See your system administrator. Your account may have been deactivated. Please contact your system administrator for more details.

What devices can be used with Help Lightning?

Mobile Devices: Any iOS or Android device will work. We support the current operating system, plus up to 2 previous versions.
Web Browser: On the web, go to https://Helplightning.net. We support the following browsers: Safari, Firefox, Edge(Chromium), or Chrome.
Smart Glasses: We currently support Vuzix, RealWear, and Zebra glasses.

Is any additional equipment needed?

For the desktop, an external camera is needed to set up an environment to give help.
Additional suggested equipment includes:
Tablet stands – if using a tablet to give help.
Earphones – if in a loud environment.
White mat – to place under your camera to Give help

The solution is based on 360° images and videos, replacing the need for 3D models, reducing development time, and providing a real-life real-time experience in the learning environment.

Do we need to know some level of XML or other coding languages?

No, everything is code-free, development is based on a pre-defined bank of elements, covering every object that is required to create a learning module.

Do we need special gear or wearables?

No, the learning environment is accessed by hand-held devices and desktop computers, no additional gear is required.
